The Box Under the Bed eBook Eileen Albrizio

This is a book about being haunted. But these are not jumpscare phantoms or Creepypasta wraiths. Within this short book, there are many ghosts of the more conventional sort- translucent shades of people passed from this world. But then again, maybe they are just conjurations of a brooding mind. For there is also a different strain of revenant here- formed from painful memories, regrets, mental illness- growing like phosphorescent gray fungi among the classic haunted-house wraiths. These other ghosts are the hollows formed by loved ones lost, and the dreads that lurk in the dark corner of every mind. This is horror in the vein of Poe.

The title is most appropriate, for the fears and memories are the kinds that are often shut up and locked away, pushed out of sight. Yet they continue to linger there quietly in the dark amid the cobwebs and dust piles, lying just below your sleeping head. Seeping up into your brain in the dead quiet at 3 am.

The Box Under the Bed is primarily poetry, but there are a few prose tales sprinkled in the mix, including a section of flash horror stories that deliver quick little shocks of encounters with the undead. Like a lot of poetry, it merits reading a second time to fully absorb all the nuances and see the shapes etched out by the words like roots from a centuried oak in graveyard soil.

The Box Under the Bed eBook Eileen Albrizio Reviews

Wonderful book and wonderful author.
The Box Under the Bed brought me back to my childhood. It's haunting, nail-biting stories brought me back to not being able to sleep for a week after watching Frankenstein. Eileen's lyrical language was hypnotic, making it impossible to put down the brief, very readable work. As someone learning the craft I now have the opportunity to reread Eileen's work for its technical nuggets. I highly recommend this book. One caveat. Don't read at bedtime if you plan to get any sleep that night.
Whether curled up by yourself in a fetal position or reading this eBook aloud with other mentally healthy adults, be prepared for a shift in your perspective! Haunting, dark, and ghoulish all describe Eileen Albrizio's, THE BOX UNDER THE BED.

Like the provocative title suggests, this book might just abduct your curiosity, even if you are not typically drawn to spine-tingling or stomach churning stories with a psychological bent. I doubt that you will love every piece in this slim collection of poems, short stories, and two-sentence zingers, but since so many are impeccably paced microcosms of suspense, you might consider the read a sort of tasting menu of the unexpected. My favorites were the two-sentence zingers - pretty much all of them, the poem called, "Dust," and the short story, Three Shots of Tequila.

THE BOX UNDER THE BED is recommended for lovers of the macabre, for those who want to shock themselves into a tingly mood, or better yet, for those who want to provoke a greater appreciation of the light and love in their own lives. This reviewer received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
In "The Box Under the Bed" Eileen Albrizio has courted the mystery genre akin to Edgar Allen Poe. Her poetry and short stories evoke thoughts of the master in his prime. Dark and revealing with much depth this is a thoroughly captivating and entertaining read. I just hope there will be a "The Box Under the Other Bed" sequel.
I must admit that I usually don't like to read anything scary. The name and the cover intrigued me. It brought me back in my mind to a place in my childhood. My older sister and I would spend time with two of our cousins. We would sit around in a circle late at night and tell ghost stories. Sometimes some of the neighborhood kids would come over to listen. I was the youngest and would get really scared. Even though I got scared, I couldn't wait until the next time we all got together to tell new stories. I loved reading the stories in this book. The stories were intriguing and kept me reading until the end. Yes, at times I got a little scared, but just like when I was a kid, I couldn't wait to read the next story. This is a great book of stories for all ages.
